Reconstruction Progress of Tupoleva Street in Zhukovsky – 75%

In Zhukovsky near Moscow, the reconstruction of Tupoleva Street is in process – the work is being carried out according to the schedule, the overall construction progress of the facility is 75%. The reconstructed 2.7 km long section lies between the road interchange at the intersection of Tupoleva Street and the Tupolevskoye highway, and the bridge across the Khripan River. It is planned to open traffic on the new road, including the tunnel under Gromova Square, by the end of 2022. The work is performed by Stroytransgaz Group.

“At the moment, the builders have started lining and interior finishing of the tunnel, using domestic materials – ceramic granite and granite slabs, metal panels. The total area of interior finishing will be about 10 thousand square meters, of exterior finishing – about 3 thousand square meters. In parallel, concreting of the tunnel walls and ceilings is in progress by 90%. It is planned to complete the concreting in September, after which the installation of utility systems in the tunnel will begin,” said Aleksey Gerzhik, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Moscow Region.

A four-lane tunnel with a length of 713 m, of which 283 m will be closed and combined sections, will appear in Tupoleva Street. The contract provides for the road to be widened from 2 to 6 lanes; the estimated traveling speed will be 70 km/h, and the traffic capacity will reach about 50 thousand vehicles per day.

“Almost all materials are domestic, a small part is from friendly countries. The tunnel will become part of a two-level road interchange and provide smooth transit traffic. People will feel the changes. The throughput will increase several times,” assured Andrey Khromets, Project Director at JSC Stroytransgaz.

The project implementation will increase the throughput by redistributing the transit traffic and improving the vehicle accessibility of the Zhukovsky and Ramenskoye municipal districts. The traffic situation for more than 400,000 residents will be seriously improved. Now, the travel time for them is 1.5 to 2 hours. Once the reconstruction is completed, traffic will be non-stop, and the travel time on Tupolev Street will be reduced to 10 minutes. It will be possible to get to the Novoryazanskoye highway in 15–20 minutes.

Work continues at the facility to widen the roadway and lay duplicate roads. The progress is 55%. 26,450 sq.m. out of 83,400 sq.m. of the surface course made of crushed stone-mastic asphalt concrete mix, which is highly durable, suitable for high-intensity tracks, and has a noise-absorbing effect, have been laid.

Besides, work is underway to build 5 elevated pedestrian crossings, which will ensure the safe and comfortable traffic of residents and will be equipped with elevators to ensure access for people with limited mobility. Three out of them are already completed, the installation of elevators is almost completed. Metal structures of the glazing frame and elevators are being installed on two of them.

Reconstruction of utilities is being completed, installation of noise barriers is underway.

About 350 workers and 50 units of machinery are engaged in work on a daily basis. Tupolev Street is being reconstructed under the national Safe High-Quality Roads initiative.
