Reconstruction Progress of Tupoleva Street in Zhukovsky is 85%

In Zhukovsky near Moscow, active reconstruction of Tupoleva Street is underway, the project is 85% complete. It is planned to allow traffic and open the project by the end of 2022. Long-awaited for over 400 thousand residents, the project has entered the final straight. 

The tunnel under Gromova Square has been completely concreted, and the levelling layer of the base of the tunnel’s roadway has been completed as well. Now, waterproofing is applied on this layer for the subsequent arrangement of asphalt concrete pavement. Painting of the internal concrete surfaces of the walls and ceilings of the tunnel has been completed, installation of life support systems for the tunnel, an anti-icing system, and lighting is in progress, finishing of the face of walls is being carried out. In addition, guides are mounted for the installation of interior furnishing panels in the tunnel.

The road section under reconstruction is 80% complete. Work on laying the surface layer of the pavement are currently underway. The contract provides for the roadway to be widened from 2 to 6 lanes; the estimated traveling speed will be 70 km/h, and the traffic capacity will reach about 50 thousand vehicles a day.

The safety of pedestrian traffic in the section will be ensured by aboveground crossings. A total of 5 structures will be built, 3 of them are ready already, finishing is being completed. At the crossing No. 4, one of the support towers is being erected, the second is undergoing interior furnishing, and a glazing frame is being mounted on the overpass superstructure. The completion rate of the crossing No. 5 is high as well, glazing is underway.

In order to reduce the noise pollution level, noise barriers will be installed at the reconstruction site. At present, grillages and waterproofing are 90% complete, installation of racks and screen panels has started.

About 300 workers and 60 units of machinery are engaged in the work daily.

The reconstructed 2.7 km long section lies between the road interchange at the intersection of Tupoleva Street and the Tupolevskoye highway, and the bridge across the Khripan River. A four-lane tunnel with a length of 713 m, of which 283 m are closed and combined sections. The project execution will increase the road capacity and improve transport accessibility for residents of the cities of Zhukovsky and Ramenskoe. The traffic will be non-stop, and the travel time on Tupolev Street will be reduced to 10 minutes. It will be possible to get to the Novoryazanskoye highway in 15 to 20 minutes.

Reconstruction of Tupoleva street is planned within Land-use Planning Scheme and is part of Moscow Region State Program “Development and Functioning of Road Traffic Complex”.  And add about the planned timing of allowing traffic.
