Work on Installation of Superstructure Beams on Lyubertsy Overpass Has Begun

8 beams of the superstructure were installed on December, 6

The overpass on Oktyabrsky Avenue in Lyubertsy is the most important element of the area improvement project. Its construction on the main transport artery of the city will help to eliminate traffic jams and improve the traffic situation. Currently, the installation of superstructure beams has started on the overpass. The construction is being carried out by Stroytransgaz Group.

The future overpass will be located between Krasnaya and Smirnovskaya streets, its length will be 473 m (and together with retaining walls – 741 m), width – 18.8 m, height – 8.5 m. The total number of lanes will be 4, two in each direction. It will rest on 15 supports.

As of the moment, 3 of those have already been installed (from 8 to 11). The builders have already mounted 8 superstructure beams between supports 11 and 10. In total, the overpass will have 140 reinforced concrete I-beams with tensioned reinforcement, weighing about 60 tons each.

As the beams are solid and 33 meters in length, they are delivered at night, so as not to impede traffic. To mount a beam on the overpass supports, it is rigged (strapped) and lifted directly from the beam carrier with two jib cranes. After that, the fitters secure the beam with threaded jacks and other devices to prevent it from tipping over. After installation, the second beam is welded to the first, thus forming a structure resistant to tipping over. All other beams are mounted based on the same principle.

After that, they will proceed to installation of special purpose auxiliary facilities and equipment of scaffolding and formwork for further joint grouting of inter-beam joints. Installation of the reinforcement cage of the inter-beam joints and concrete laying will be performed as well. When the superstructure slab gains strength, bridge deck construction will be started.

The regular traffic on the overpass is scheduled to be launched in 2023.

Expansion of the avenue’s main route is being done in parallel with these works. The improvement project site has a length of 1.5 km along the main route and 2.9 km along the side driveways. The road will be expanded from 4 to 8 lanes. To date, 1.1 km of side roads have been built, to which the traffic has already been diverted.

Construction of the first of two pedestrian undercrossings is in progress. The stair approach foundations and the monolithic base of the structure are ready, and the walls are prepared for concrete pouring. In addition, the construction of a new storm sewer and refurbishment of utilities continues.

After the reconstruction, the average traffic speed will be about 80 km/h and vehicle travel time will be reduced to 15 to 20 minutes. The road’s traffic capacity will increase by 35%.
