Building of the Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts

At the end of March, the construction site of the branch of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts in Kaliningrad - the Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts - was visited by its director, Yulia Alekseevna Aleinikova. Together with the General Director of STG-Zapad LLC, the erected monolithic frame of the building and the facade mock-up representing the architectural concept of the project were inspected.

The Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts, a branch of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, is one of the institutions of the cultural and educational complex being created in Kaliningrad as per the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It will become the first higher education institution in Kaliningrad Region to offer a modern, creative profession in 9 areas. Profound traditions of Russia's oldest theatre institute will be passed on to students of the branch using the latest digital technology.

The School of Creative Industries has been running for three years on the basis of Yunost Park, and in the future it will also be located on Oktyabrsky Island. Young people between ages of 12 and 17 receive additional education in the School of Creative Industries. The developed programmes open to the students promising areas of creative technology in animation studios, design, interactive digital technology, sound and electronic music production, photography and video production, theatre and theatre technology.

Five-storey building for future students of the Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts and the students of the School of Creative Industries is erected on Oktyabrsky Island next to the branches of the Bolshoi Theatre and the Tretyakov Gallery. Its architectural concept involves a stepped shape symmetrically tapering towards the top. The building’s facades, which will consist entirely of glass and suspended wall cassettes made of Corten steel, will add subtlety and simplicity to the building.
