Construction site of the Culture and Education Complex on Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad

More than a thousand builders are engaged at the Oktyabrsky Island Culture and Education Complex construction site in Kaliningrad, where three major facilities are being constructed. Interior finishing is ongoing in the future museum, which is a branch of the Tretyakov Gallery, and installation of ventilation system and internal partitions is underway in the Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts. Erection of the load-bearing cast-in-place building frame is underway at the Bolshoi Theatre branch construction site.

The cast-in-place frame of the Bolshoi Theatre branch is 65% complete. Its construction is proceeding at a high pace, and in the three weeks since the previous report, more than 2 thousand cubic metres of concrete and 300 tonnes of reinforcement have been laid. In total, since the construction started, 28.8 thousand cubic meters of concrete and 3.3 thousand tonnes of reinforcement have been used. The builders are currently constructing floor slabs on the 4th floor level. The building is 18 metres high already.

‘Any passer-by can observe the speed of construction of the Bolshoi Theatre branch building watching from the Paradnaya Embankment. The view changes virtually every day with new staircases, halls, walls of auditoriums, columns appearing’, - says Dmitry Rzhannikov, Director General of STG-Zapad. - We plan to start installation of simple metal structures in the small auditorium very soon. We are currently preparing a site for subassembly of complex bent structural steel to be used in cantilever construction. All in all, the work is going according to plan’.

Branch of the Tretyakov Gallery

Tens of thousands of kilometres of utilities are being laid in the Tretyakov Gallery branch building. Upon completion of this stage, installation of terminal equipment and formation of the core controlling all the museum’s systems will start. The works on installation of trunking walls of exhibition halls are ongoing, and wall and ceiling plastering has been completed.

Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts

Installation of partitions made of breeze blocks in the Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts is almost complete. 1,200+ cubic metres have been laid. Central staircase of the entrance area is already installed. About 600 square metres of general ventilation ducts have been installed.

Background:
The task to create four cultural centres (Vladivostok, Kemerovo, South Russia, Kaliningrad) was set by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in his Address to the Federal Assembly in 2018 and detailed in the Executive Order on the National Goals and Strategic Objectives of Development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024.
Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad will serve as a location for:
- Tretyakov Gallery Branch — 14 exhibition halls with a total area of 4.4 thousand square meters;
- Opera and Ballet Theatre (branch of the Bolshoi Theatre) — large auditorium with 950 seats, small auditorium with 300 seats;
- Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts (branch of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts) for 150 seats.
Construction of the Culture and Education Complex in Kaliningrad is being carried out by Stroytransgaz Group as commissioned by the National Cultural Heritage Foundation for Social and Cultural Projects.
