Traffic Launched along the Exit Ramp from Volodarskoe Highway in the Leninsky District of the Moscow Region

General View of the Facility

A right-turn exit ramp from Volodarskoe Highway to A-105 Highway, designed and built by Stroytransgaz, has been opened in the Leninsky District of the Moscow Region. This will allow drivers to reduce travel time to Moscow from 1 hour down to 20 minutes. The two-lane exit ramp was built based on instruction from Andrey Vorobyov, Governor of the Moscow Region, and at the request of local residents.

The exit ramp construction is a stage of reconstruction of the Kashirskoe Highway section that is 1 km long together with a transition lane. The road section runs from the interchange with A-105 (Entrance to the Domodedovo Airport) to the turn onto Belokamennoe Highway towards Vidnoe.

“I’m here to thank our entire team of the Moscow Region State Road Safety Inspectorate for the work they do. We jointly implement large-scale traffic safety and quality assurance measures. The region is growing, and I think you well notice it as you see the number of vehicles growing too. We have already expanded Volodarskoe Highway from 2 to 4 lanes, and today we opened this exit ramp,” said Andrey Vorobyov, who drove along the new section of the road and talked to inspectors of the Road Police Motorcycle Battalion.

The Region Governor pointed out that the large-scale safety assurance programme had been helping decrease traffic mortality annually for 10 years. “We try to eliminate all dangerous sections as quickly as possible,” emphasised he.

Stroytransgaz Group designed and built the new exit ramp in record time – three years ahead of schedule. Road workers proceeded to work in November 2022, while traffic was launched on this road section in early May. As Dmitry Deringer, Deputy General Director for Infrastructure Construction at STG JSC, noted: “They didn’t know the mission was impossible, so they just did it!”.

It was decided to build the new exit ramp in the first instance because the facility would connect settlements with a total population of more than 30,000. The exit ramp has 2 lanes (each 4 m wide). The asphalt concrete pavement at the exit ramp was laid in three layers with a total thickness of 28 cm (a total of 4.5 thousand tons of mixture). 25 workers and 37 units of machinery are involved in the exit ramp construction.
It is worth reminding that, in late April, 18 lighting poles were installed at the facility, as well as technical traffic management means – barrier fencing, road signs, and marking. “Reflective marking has been applied to the road section, which reflects the light from a vehicle’s headlights back to the driver’s eyes after dark. Besides, special glass beads were used to improve visibility at night,” said Valery Druzhinin, Road Construction and Reconstruction Project Director for the Leninsky and Domodedovo Districts at STG JSC.

Work is underway as part of the Safe High-Quality Roads national project. It is also planned to be completed ahead of schedule – in late 2025. The road will be expanded to 6–8 lanes. Outdoor lighting lines will be installed here, and new multi-level interchanges without traffic lights will be built at the intersection with A-105, Volodarskoe, and Belokamennoe Highways. 3 underground pedestrian crossings and 7 bus stops will be built to ensure convenience and safety of residents.

“We opened the exit ramp today at 5 a.m., thus starting the Kashirskoe Highway reconstruction. An interchange for A-105 will be built there – this is a very large facility that will completely redo the whole road infrastructure. We will also build 4 overpasses, and traffic jams will leave this place,” told the Governor and residents Aleksey Gerzhik, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Moscow Region.

Background:

The construction of Volodarskoe Highway exit is just one of the stages of the future project of improvement of Kashirskoe Highway section, which is expected to commence upon completion of design in Q3 2023. As part of the project, the road will be expanded to 6–8 lanes, and three interchanges without traffic lights will be constructed on different levels at intersections with A-105, Volodarskoe and Belokamennoe Highways. Three new pedestrian crossings will be constructed, and various elements of traffic management will be implemented. The total length of the road section is approximately 16.5 km.
