Construction of Bridge Across the Chusovaya River in the Perm Territory

Construction of Bridge Across the Chusovaya River in the Perm Territory

Stroytransgaz JSC is building a bridge across the Chusovaya River in the Perm Territory. In addition, the company is reconstructing over 9.2 km of roads and will build three interchanges: at the intersection of Tsimlyanskaya and Korsunskaya Streets and near the Palniki railway station. Watch a new video about the progress of the construction project.

Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Perm Territory, inspected the construction of one of the most long-awaited and major road facilities in the Kama region, which are a bridge across the Chusovaya River and transport interchanges on the approaches to it.

The facility completion was reported to the governor by Maksim Smagin, Head of the Directorate for Project Execution in the Perm Territory of Stroytransgaz JSC.

Chusovaya River Bridge

Launching of the overpass superstructure from both banks of the Chusovaya River has been completed. For coupling, 336 m from the left bank and 1,155 m from the right bank have been launched. Thus, the main work on the construction of the bridge frame of 1.5 km in length is almost complete. What remains is to level the parts in height, and the structure will be closed. Lowering of the bridge span is planned to be completed in early November, and thereafter installation of pavement on the roadway will begin.

On the approaches to the bridge from both banks, construction of embankment of earthwork along the main route of the road, reinforcement of the embankment cone near the bank piers, and layering of pavement bases are in progress.

Main Route of the Road

The “road pie” of the main route of the road will consist of 3 layers of asphalt concrete pavement with a total thickness of 22 cm.

Construction of the road part along the main route of the Vostochny Bypass and Perm – Berezniki Highways continues: layers of pavement are being laid, and slopes of earthwork of the road are being reinforced, border stones are being installed.

Interchanges

The project provides for the construction of three new interchanges:

−           Interchange near the Palniki railway station

Work on the new right-side overpass continues – construction of all supports has been completed, all span beams have been installed, arrangement of the monolithic slab of the roadway is in progress has been completed. At present, overpass junctions with approaches to the road embankment are being arranged and layers of pavement are being laid at the interchange ramps.

In 2021, a left-side overpass of almost 166 m long was put in operation.

The key facility of the interchange is a two-lane overpass with a length of 168 m, resting on 7 constructed pillars. The overpass construction has been completed.

Arrangement of all ramps of the road interchange is coming into the final stage: laying the top layer of asphalt concrete pavement, installation of side stones and road signs, road marking.

The key facility of the interchange is a two-lane overpass with a length of 93,65 m, resting on 5 constructed pillars. The overpass construction has been completed.

Arrangement of all ramps of the transport interchange will be completed soon.

Railway Overpass

STG is improving the railway overpass at the Levshino – Golovanovo crossover across the Perm – Berezniki Highway. In order not to block the railway communication, work on the overpass is being carried out by traffic directions, it is now being carried out on an odd track. Upon completion, railway traffic will be switched to it, and the builders will start work on an even track. Installation of overpass superstructures and formation of a ballast section* from crushed stone for the subsequent laying of railway tracks are underway.

*Ballast section is an element of the upper structure of the track from ballast, laid on earthwork to stabilise the rail-and-sleeper grid when exposed to dynamic loads from rolling stock.

 Aboveground crossings

At present, construction of one of the three aboveground crossings – across the Vostochny Bypass in the area of the traffic interchange at the intersection with Tsimlyanskaya Street – has been completed.

In the remaining two – across the Perm – Berezniki Highway – arrangement of pile foundation and construction of pillars have been completed. Assembling of steel overpass superstructures and pavilions is underway.

Maksim Smagin reported to the governor that today the staff of builders has been increased at the sites: The total number exceeds a thousand people. Also, we have about 140 units of machinery here. At the same time, work is organised around the clock both on the bridge and on the overpasses. Under favourable weather conditions, we are expecting to complete the road part of the bridge by the end of the year and then open traffic on it.”

Further, Maksim Smagin mentioned the upcoming reconstruction of the old bridge: We are planning to replace the bearing members, to reinforce the steel overpass superstructures, and to install a new reinforced concrete slab. The work is scheduled for spring 2023. The entire project is to be completed by the end of March 2024.”

Construction of a new road bridge across the Chusovaya River is implemented as part of a public and private partnership. The concession is granted to Perm Concession Company LLC. Stroytransgaz JSC acts as the general construction contractor. The cost of work is estimated at 18.7 billion rubles.

Following the working visit, Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Kama Region, emphasized the strategic importance of building a new bridge across the Chusovaya River and interchanges on the approaches to it. “Today, asphalt concrete work at transport interchanges is already in progress, which should be completed in the near future, and traffic at the facilities will be launched. This will solve the problem of traffic jams near the Chusovsky Bridge and speed up road traffic significantly. We pay special attention to the work schedule for the “old” stage of the bridge. During the meeting, the builders have confirmed that they are taking on enhanced commitments on its reconstruction. I’d like to note that, at the moment, all work by the contractor is carried out adequately and competently. For our part, we cooperate: we had issues with the supply of metals and components, but we resolved them through joint efforts. In the near future, Perm and the Perm Territory will receive one of the best interchanges which will provide transport accessibility to the Perm Municipal District, Berezniki, Dobryanka, and other settlements,” – reported the Head of the Kama Region.
