In 2005 STG as a leader of the consortium with the joint Russian-Greek venture Prometheus Gas S. A. started the construction of the high-pressure gas pipeline Komotini-Alexandroupolis in Greece for Greek state gas corporation DEPA S.A. The project was implemented within the framework of the Protocol on Alterations to the Appendix of December 19, 1994 to the Intergovernmental Agreement on natural gas supplies to Greece Republic of October 7, 1987.
The 53.4 km long Komotini-Alexandroupolis section became the western branch of the already constructed gas pipeline running from the Greek-Turkish border to Alexandroupolis. It connected the Greek gas transportation system with its Turkish counterpart providing Greece with a new channel for delivery of natural gas.
Under the contract Stroytransgaz performed construction-assembly operations and processing facilities delivery. In addition to the linear part of the pipeline the company built site facilities, three line valve stations, and a pig receiver.
The route of the gas pipeline traverses irrigated lands and difficult-to-access mountain and ledge areas with numerous natural and man-made obstacles: river beds, forest areas, synclines, hills, and rocks, highways and railroads.
Project operations were completed in 2007.
“Around 1000 km of high-pressure gas pipelines have been built in Greece with involvement of the Russian counterpart, and a new Komotini-Alexandroupolis is a continued long fruitful collaboration between our countries”, - mentioned Batalin I.Yu., General Director of Stroytransgaz representative office in Greece.
