In December 2008 a consortium comprising Stroytransgaz PJSC (consortium leader) and the Russian-Greek joint enterprise Prometheus Gas S.A. signed a contract with DESFA S.A, Greek state company, for construction of the Nea Messambria compressor station along the Kulata-Athens main gas pipeline in the area of Saloniki, Greece. Construction of the compressor station was planned in the signed Protocol of December 1994 on alterations to the Intergovernmental agreement between the Russian Federation and Greece of October 7, 1987.

Nea Messambria compressor station capacity is ensured by two turbine compressors Solar (7,688 MW capacity each) operating both in 100% load mode and in a standby mode.
Project operations were completed in 2012.
