Pit contour closure in the course of the Bagaevsky Hydroelectric Complex construction

Spillway Dam Pit Contour

An impervious pile curtain has been installed along the contour of the spillway dam foundation pit as part of the Bagaevsky Hydroelectric Complex (BHC) construction 1330 piles have been driven, which is more than 7300 tons of sheet piling.

The impervious curtain not only prevents water inflow to the pit, but also protects its walls from collapsing. The next phase of pit excavation will be dewatering – drawdown of groundwaters to the design levels.

The pit is intended for the construction of a spillway dam, which is a reinforced concrete spillway with a wide threshold and a flat lifting and lowering gate. The dam consists of 12 sections with a total length of 307 meters; in future it will ensure water flow passage and balancing. The functional purpose of the spillway dam is to maintain water pressure thus ensuring the guaranteed waterway dimensions on the Don River section.

Background:

Construction of the hydroelectric complex at the Don River at km 3,089 of the navigation pass of the Unified Deep Water System began in 2018. The goal is to increase transport accessibility and improve the working conditions of the water management complex of the Don Region, as well as to ensure the reliability and safety of navigation of the large-capacity fleet on the Lower Don. The main operational purpose of Bagaevsky Hydroelectric Complex is to ensure the required course dimensions (4m depth, 80m width and 500m radius of curvature) in the problem area and lock chamber sills of Kochetovsky Hydroelectric Complex. In addition, Bagaevskoye Reservoir can be used by fisheries, for municipal, industrial and agricultural water supply.

FKU ROSTRANSMODERNIZATSIYA is the customer of the second (main) phase of the Bagaevsky Hydroelectric Complex construction project.
