Stroytransgaz Group of Companies rapidly continues the construction of a strategically important federal facility, the Bagaevsky hydroelectric complex. It is intended to solve several regional and national challenges at once: to ensure the required dimensions of the waterway for the enhancement of river transportation and the supply of drinking and technical water to the population.

On Arpachinsky Island, the soil excavation for the main structures of the future hydroelectric complex is underway. 1232 tube welded sheet piles were driven to build the cut-off wall. That's more than 5,500 tons of sheet piling.

More than 3 million tons of topsoil was removed from the territory of the fish passage and spawning channel to a storage area. Part of the soil amounting to 306 thousand cubic meters was used for the construction of the protecting dam for this channel. Currently, the dam backfill is 30% completed. The cofferdam of the channel main head regulator was completely arranged, with 143.1 thousand cubic meters of soil backfilled. The formation of exits and passages inside the excavation is nearing completion. The excavation of section 2 (about 80 thousand cubic meters) on the territory of the breeding ground (six sections in total) is completed.

The design provides for dredging in the section line of the complex, the upstream and downstream sides, as well as in several sections of the river. It is planned to excavate more than 7 million cubic meters of soil. To date, 123.8 thousand cubic meters of soil have been excavated at the dredging site No. 3. The workers settlement with a capacity of 1,500 people is 80% complete. The first of the three dormitories is occupied by workers. The ready-mix station is 90% ready, and commissioning work is underway. Stroytransgas's first own inflatable repair workshop (hangar) is fully ready for operation. Most of the routine repair and maintenance work is conducted at the construction site. The stationary petrol station serves more than 150 vehicles operating at the site. Two gantry cranes with lifting capacity of 10 thousand tons and a track length of more than 100 meters were commissioned at the construction site and prepared for acceptance by Rostekhnadzor.

Project background:

The Bagayevsky Hydroelectric Complex is the most important infrastructure project not only for the Rostov region, but also for the whole country. The hydroelectric complex under construction will be composed of: a shipping lock with a central control room, upper and lower approach channels with mooring-guiding structures, a spillway and earth fill dam, a meandering fish bypass and spawning channel and a fish passage lock, industrial, service, engineering and auxiliary facilities, a settlement for operating personnel. To ensure the navigation safety, channel-regulating dams are arranged, as well as shore protection dams that will prevent the development of bank erosion processes (washout and collapse), protect from the impact of ship waves and reduce the negative impact of waters on the population living in these areas. In order to ensure guaranteed waterway dimensions (depth – 4 m, width – 80 m, bending radius – 500 m) in the section from the Kochetovsky Hydroelectric Complex site at km 3004.5 of the waterway of the Unified Deep Water System (UDWS) to the Bagaevsky Hydroelectric Complex site at km 3089 of the UDWS waterway, dredging and river cut-off are envisaged.
