In May 2021, JSC Stroytransgaz entered into a public contract with Magadan Regional Public Institution Administration for the Operation and Construction of Road Transportation Complex for the 1st phase of construction and erection works to protect the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk from Mayak Park to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, including the development of basis and detailed design documentation.

The purpose of the coastline maintenance work is to protect the population and infrastructure of the city of Magadan from the destructive effects of the waves of the Sea of Okhotsk.

The agreement provides for:

• Pre-design site survey;
• Engineering surveys;
• Development of options for the concept of coastline protection;
• Development of basic and detailed design documentation, including state expert review;
• Preparation of a safety declaration;
• Construction of coastline protection facilities for securing and protecting the slope and collapse area on a 1800 m long section of the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk;
• Collection and drainage of surface water along the entire construction site to prevent the negative impact of surface runoff on the coastal slope;
• Construction of the facility in accordance with the approved basic and detailed design documentation.

In opinion of Stroytransgaz experts in hydroengineering, the condition of the coastline of the Sea of Okhotsk and the existing development requires additional coast protection facilities to be built in the area of Magadan Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital. Erosion processes increase the risk of landslides and loss of stability of the slope, due to dead-weight displacement of rock masses along the slope followed by collapse of a considerable part of the existing area.

The construction of the coast protection facilities will eliminate the risk of collapse, increase the recreational area for the city’s population and give an integral and finished view of the coastal area in the Nagayev Bay.
