Report on the Reconstruction of Tupoleva Street in Zhukovsky

Erection of tunnel foundation

In July 2018, Stroytransgaz JSC signed an agreement with the Moscow Region State Public Institution “Road Construction Administration” for reconstruction of Tupoleva street in Zhukovsky, the city in the Moscow region. According to the agreement, Stroytransgaz will expand the highway from two to eight lanes, 4 in each direction, so that the new highway speed will increase to 70 km/h, and its traffic capacity will rise to 50 thousand vehicles per day.

Each two years Zhukovsky hosts the international aviation and space salon. MAKS is still on a par with the major world’s air shows, this event is attended by an enormous number of people who come to the city. Therefore, Zhukovsky desperately needs the reconstruction and construction of roads. This year, the MAKS International Aviation and Space Salon is be the most anticipated event of the year, it will be held in the city from July 20 to 25, 2021.

Erection of tunnel foundation

In the course of project execution, a two-level interchange, five above-ground pedestrian overpasses, and a 713 m four-lane tunnel near Gromova Square, including a 280 m closed section, will be built. The existing bus stops at Gromova Square will be altered. In addition, the surrounding area will be landscaped and improved, in particular, conifers and shrubs will be planted.

Level of service and total traffic capacity of Tupoleva street with one traffic lane each way makes it impossible to ensure proper vehicle access for users of community, cultural, scientific and industrial facilities in Zhukovsky city and adjacent areas. Additional road load also occurs due to transit traffic from Ramenskoye town.

The execution of the reconstruction project will allow to synchronize Tupoleva Street with the previously built access road to Zhukovsky (Gromov Flight Research Institute) from M5 highway "Ural", to provide access for vehicles to the National Centre of Aircraft Construction, and generally improve the road traffic situation in the city of Zhukovsky in view of its future development.

Dismantling of reconstructed communication networks

At the moment, the following works are underway: installation of special auxiliary structures and devices for the construction of the tunnel enclosing structure, excavation, excavation support and bed preparation for tunnel construction under the Gromov square.

Completed works: reconstruction of five water pipelines, three gas pipelines and three sewerage systems, a heating system within the construction area, installation of cable lines, storm drain and communication networks, cable duct and outdoor lighting installation (65 roadway supports and 24 sidewalk lighting poles were installed).

33 machine units and 210 workers such as builders, machine operators, engineers and technicians and etc. are involved at the construction site.
