Watch a new video report on the construction of onshore and offshore infrastructure facilities in Gelendzhik. A modern passenger port will be built here, it will be able to handle passenger vessels, small-size motor vessels and sailing vessels of various classes. This is a large project as infrastructure facilities will include a passenger terminal with a berth for passenger vessels with a draught up to 5.9 meters, a length of up to 142.13m and a passenger capacity of up to 940 people, a yacht marina, fencing and coast protection hydraulic structures, a passenger terminal building with a passenger checkpoint across the state border of the Russian Federation, etc. The port infrastructure is being created as part of the new tourist and recreational zone in Gelendzhik and will be able to handle at least 19,600 passengers a year.

The project works are carried out in the following main areas:

- Breakwaters

The main and most labour-intensive structures of the yacht marina, breakwaters, are enclosing hydraulic structures that protect the marina’s water area against the force of sea waves. There are two of them at the project site: Southern breakwater 806.5m long and Northern breakwater 120.3m long.

Despite their apparent simplicity of construction, breakwaters are extremely rugged structures with two solid walls on both sides made of reinforced concrete piles driven into the seabed. 1,251 piles are driven into the base of the Southern breakwater, and 737 piles are driven into the base of the Northern breakwater. Concreted piles, 11,000 sq.m of geotextile, 14,500 cu.m of stone for seabed reinforcement, and 36 seawalls located on the topsides of the breakwaters, provide reliable protection for the marina. The Southern breakwater is scheduled for completion in May this year, and the Northern breakwater in September.

- Berths

The marina will contain 5 berths to receive and handle passenger vessels and yachts, including international traffic.

Berth 1 has already been built. For the other berths, the topside are being constructed and are scheduled for completion in May 2022.

- Dredging

Dredging operations are now being carried out to increase the sea depth inside and near the marina, and, consequently, to ensure easy passage of vessels in the future. Once dredging operations are complete, the maximum depth will be minus 7.5 meters.

The scope of work is impressive: to date, 80,592 cu.m has been dredged within the yacht marina area, and 132,276 cu.m in the passenger area. It would take almost 11,000 KAMAZ dump trucks to hold such quantity of sand.

- Coast protection

The total length of coast protection is 517.3m. Now, sand is being placed to create the bulk of the structure. Progress is 83%.

- Artificial land plot

The artificial land plot has been completed. It took 28,810 cu.m of soil to build this territory.

The project for construction of onshore and
offshore infrastructure facilities will have significant social and economic
effects in the development of the city because the new comfortable environment
will allow raising the city’s tourism appeal and will, in turn, have a positive
effect on the city economy and quality of its residents' life and promote the development
of maritime transportation routes of the coastal region.
