Governor Andrey Bocharov: "We are connecting historical heritage with the present and future development of the city"

"This is a comprehensive approach: we are connecting historical heritage with the present and future development of the city" – this is how Regional Governor Andrey Bocharov described the mission of the Volgograd Central Embankment reconstruction during his last visit to the facility in June. The work carried out by JSC Stroytransgaz was appreciated by the head of the region.

"We plan to complete all construction work on the lower terrace of the embankment by 1 September – the objective is being achieved despite all the challenges. In fact, this is a new facility – here has never been such an embankment," noted Andrey Bocharov.

The length of the section under reconstruction is 3.5 km. 85% of the facility has been landscaped, work is underway to lay asphalt concrete pavement, paving slabs, and tactile tiles marking off danger zones and drops for visually impaired people and people with limited mobility.  Planting of 10,000 bushes and trees is almost completed on the territory of 16 hectares.

The centre of the embankment is an open amphitheatre for 2,300 seats. A bridge pedestrian crossing, the construction of which has already been completed, leads to the amphitheatre through the carriageway of the lateral road. The amphitheatre is undergoing finishing work, installation of utility networks, construction of a colonnade, which will be located along the stage edge from the Volga River side. Each of the 52 columns will be made of high-strength material – the Dagestan stone, which has enhanced strength and durability characteristics.

Work on the development of the Volgograd embankment covers not only the territories used since the Soviet times, but also previously unused sections near the river (including the promenade areas opposite the Volgograd Arena* stadium) to have a completely new look. A powerful impetus for this, among other things, was given by bank protection and repairs of existing quay walls. All this makes it possible to turn the city towards the Volga River creating a single attractive and comfortable space near the water.
