Construction of Yuzhnaya Gas Distribution Station on Sakhalin Island is Nearing Completion

Stroytransgaz GC implements construction of the Yuzhnaya Gas Distribution Station (GDS) in Sakhalin Region. Upon its completion, natural gas will be supplied to many residential houses, industrial and power enterprises in the region.

A branch gas pipeline 475 m long is located to the south-east of Troitskoye village in the Anivsky District of the Sakhalin Region. Construction of the Yuzhnaya GDS is carried out as part of Gazprom's large-scale program Gasification of Russian Regions. The gas distribution station has been designed and developed to be suitable for the unique climatic conditions of the Far East region and Sakhalin Island – high seismicity and thick snow cover. The GDS modules stand on reinforced concrete foundations, and they can withstand the load of 9 points by Richter scale. Due to the high snow cover, the filling of the construction site by 2.3 m above grade is implemented.

By the present time installation of the heat supply pipeline system is being completed. The system provides for positive temperature maintenance under any weather conditions. Hydraulic testing of the branch gas pipeline will start soon. After that, the testing of the gas distribution station and its process piping is planned.

The Yuzhnaya gas distribution station of 170,000 m3/h capacity is one of the key elements for gasification of the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. As noted by Project Director Aleksey Vilyum: “Upon completion of construction of the Yuzhnaya GDS, it is planned that gas will pass to the ring gas pipeline of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, which along with the Yuzhnaya GDS and Dalneye GDS will facilitate more stable and reliable gas supply to residents”.
