Amphitheatre on Volgograd Embankment Being Constructed Under Tent

A massive project for renovation of the lower terrace of the city embankment is being implemented by Stroytransgas. The central facility of the entire reconstruction site is a new, modern amphitheatre designed for 2,300 seats. To avoid work interruption in winter time, a special tent covering a total of 3,200 m2 was installed at the construction site. It is planned to complete all works in the first half of 2023.

The temporary tent consists of a frame and fabric, and is installed directly over the job site. The builders have commenced to prepare amphitheatre surface before polymer waterproofing can be applied. This work requires a positive temperature, so heaters were installed inside the tent.

“We closed the thermal envelope in the amphitheatre: we installed windows and temporary doors, as well as provided the facility heating with hot air blowers. All these measures allowed us to continue the finishing works without losing pace. For the same purpose, from the end of last year, we increased the number of workers at the site up to 200 people,” said Stroytransgaz Project Director Nikolai Demidov.

At the moment, concrete screeds are being installed and concrete ground on the amphitheatre roof before polymer coating can be applied. After waterproofing, the workers will start installing of seats and amphitheatre cladding. Currently, plastering and painting are in progress on the first floor. The construction is supervised by the Volgograd Administration’s Single Customer-Developer Service.

A pedestrian bridge 18 meters wide and 80 meters long leads to the amphitheatre through the roadway of a belt road. Waterproofing and railing have already been installed here, the bridge metal elements have been painted. Nearby, the reconstruction of berth 15 is underway. Builders have already installed the new foundation and commenced to install column rebars. Trees and shrubs will be planted at the site, and an irrigation water line will be installed.

62nd Army Central Embankment is a key landmark of Volgograd and a favourite leisure area. The landscaped lower terrace of the embankment will become part of a common recreation area along the Volga bank from the Mamai Kurgan to the flood plain of the Tsaritsa River. It already includes the area near Volgograd Arena stadium, Victory Park, the renovated upper terrace of the city embankment and a park near the “Russia. My History” museum, a garden square near the Gasitel fire boat, Pushkin garden square and Pakhmutova garden square.
