“I am delighted with the museum building that will appear!”, – Director of the Tretyakov Gallery said about the complex under construction in Kaliningrad

The construction site of the State Tretyakov Gallery branch in Kaliningrad was visited by Zelfira Tregulova, Director of the main museum of Russian national art. The Tretyakov Gallery branch is built as part of the Cultural and Educational Complex construction on Oktyabrsky Island.

“There will be exposition halls that will house exhibitions about the history of Russian art and other areas. The branch will be able to demonstrate films and video art projects. There is a wonderful auditorium hall for 276 people, where concerts, lectures and performances can be held. We spoke with Governor Anton Alikhanov that public spaces and auditoriums of the Tretyakov Gallery branch in Kaliningrad could become a platform for film and music festivals,” – Zelfira Tregulova, Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery told the reporters.

The branch will also have an art space for children, teenagers and adults, a library and much more.

The Kaliningrad branch differs from other cultural centers in its architecture and concept. Visually, the gallery seems to be floating in the air. Another dominant feature of the building is a nine-story administrative tower 50 meters high. The highlight of the complex is a unique combination of daylight and artificial light on its premises. According to Zelfira Tregulova, the view from the building windows will include stunning panoramas of Kaliningrad and the nearby cultural facilities which are still under construction.

“An amazing synergy between the building itself and its surroundings. It reminds me of the Tretyakov Gallery building on Krymsky Val and gives me the feeling of being in that space. Now everyone is trying to save as much as possible on variety of things. And here everything is done as it should be. The founder of the Tretyakov Gallery Pavel Tretyakov has made his collection for the people and for the country. He would be happy with what he could see here,” Zelfira Tregulova noted.

The museum complex of the Tretyakov Gallery is a large-scale building with a total area of 17,600 sq. m. Solid frame is 100% complete. Over 32,000 cubic meters of concrete have been laid in the building structure, 340 tons of metal structures have been installed. Monolithic works on the tower construction have been completed up to the ninth (last) floor, the completion is 99%. By the end of August, the last phase will be completed – concreting of the tower’s flights of stairs. More than 1,000 cubic meters of concrete and more than 600 tons of reinforcement have been used.

Dmitry Rzhannikov, General Director of Stroytransgaz-Zapad LLC said that works at the facility are proceeding according to the schedule:  “The import substitution was made in a timely manner – basic building materials were purchased, all logistics chains were worked out. The Tretyakov Gallery branch readiness is over 50%: the main construction and installation works have been completed, building erection has been completed as well, now works are being performed on ventilated facades and internal utilities installation. About 400 workers are employed on-site.”

Inside the facility, the outlines of future exhibition halls with natural light are already visible, the frame of the main staircase in the hall of the museum and rooms for storing exhibits are completed. The main staircase is one of the central elements of the interior and decoration of the entrance area of the museum.  It is designed to connect the first floor with the exhibition and public space on the third floor. The museum has a multi-purpose interior of the entrance area. Steps of the main staircase can be used for lectures, master classes or relaxation.

Zelfira Tregulova expressed confidence that the Tretyakov Gallery branch would become the most important cultural center in Kaliningrad.

New modern cultural and educational, as well as museum complexes are under construction in Kemerovo, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad, and in Sevastopol by order of Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation. The entire project owner is Non-Profit Organization – National Cultural Heritage Foundation for Social and Cultural Projects. The project is being implemented by one of the largest construction companies in Russia – JSC Stroytransgaz. The designer is GORKA Group.
