At the end of the final concert, STG-Zapad Technical Director Mikhail Kozlov formally presented a violin clef to the Director of Baltiyski Branch of the Central Music School Larisa Volkova, to serve as memorabilia and symbolize the beauty of music and power of inspiration: ‘On this very day, when we summarize the results of the Central Music School Branch’s two years of work, we would like to present you this violin clef from Stroytransgaz Group of Companies. We think it symbolizes the lively beauty of our children’s talents, which you brought to the building built specially for you. Now, with some time passed. we clearly see how badly the region needed this school. The aesthetically pleasing environment, exquisite musical instruments, great living conditions, professional teachers — all this gives talented children an opportunity to develop their skills and become major artists. And what is most important, they can find their own path here, fulfil their potential with the support of the Culture and Education Complex which we are now building in the western part of Oktyabrsky Island.

The building of the Central Music School Branch was constructed in 2021 by Stroytransgaz Group; the facility was ordered by the National Cultural Heritage Social and Cultural Projects Fund as part of the expansion of the cultural space within the country which was outlined by the President of Russia in his Address to the Federal Assembly in 2018. The building and the adjacent territory were constructed based on a customized design. The complex fully incorporates the best international standards, and in many respects surpasses many renowned schools of the same purpose.

The complex was erected on a turnkey basis, i.e. not just the walls, but also the entire finishing and furnishing. The children were provided with comfortable conditions for receiving general and professional education of the highest quality, and top-grade living conditions in boarding schools. The main building is joined with the comprehensive school and the swimming pool by heated galleries. Students can move around the entire complex without going outside. There are comfortable classrooms, laboratories, a medical centre, gym and fitness facilities, a swimming pool and a library for successful studies. All equipment in training and concert halls is top-grade and manufactured by the leading global and Russian producers.

As Larisa Volkova puts it, the school’s purpose is to train top-notch music performers: ‘To achieve this, there is a procedure for the identification, competitive selection, early professional guidance and development of musically gifted children of Kaliningrad Region and other constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The Branch can support up to 150 young musicians at the same time.’ Currently 76 children study in the school, 10 of which came to Kaliningrad from other regions of the country.

Background:

One of the four new Russian Culture and Education Complexes is being built on Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad. The need to create four new cultural centres (in Vladivostok, Kemerovo, Kaliningrad and South Russia) was expressed by the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin in his Address to the Federal Assembly in 2018, and elaborated in the Decree on National Goals and Strategic Objectives of Development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024. The created clusters will allow for development of a contemporary cultural space throughout the country.

The construction site in Kaliningrad is comprised of the East and West part. Development of the eastern part has already been completed. It comprises the educational part of the complex. On the western site, the buildings of the Tretyakov Gallery Branch, the Opera and Ballet Theatre (a branch of the Bolshoi Theatre), and the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts (a branch of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts) are under construction.
