The First Element of the Bolshoi Theatre Branch Console Was Installed on Oktyabrsky Island

STG-Zapad workers started assembling the unique console of the Bolshoi Theatre Branch building to be erected on Oktyabrsky Island. Its special feature is the absence of support point for the outreach, which will be 80 metres long. Console shape translates to the balletic spin called “cou-de-pied”.

5,639 types of steel structures will be used to construct the building. A total of 18,210 elements of 6.77 thousand tonnes will be assembled. 37% of the structural steel elements weighing 707 tonnes were produced by local manufacturers and fully delivered to the construction site. They are used for the upper final ceilings of the large and small auditoriums, the stage, as well as the parterre, amphitheatre and balcony.

Complex structural components of the console are delivered to the region by sea from a factory in the Moscow Region. Complex items will be assembled in two stages: firstly, large-scale assembly of the items will be carried out on a specially prepared site, and then the items will be lifted and assembled using high-capacity cranes.

“Today we have installed the first component of the console,” explains Dmitry Rzhannikov, General Director of STG-Zapad. The work will take several months to complete. As part of the contract with local manufacturer, we have received the entire volume of steel structures and most of them have already been assembled. 25% of the total complex shaped items have been supplied to the region. Their delivery by sea is ongoing, there are no logistical challenges. We are also expecting delivery of the second crane, with 600 tonnes of lifting capacity, for installation of the console.”

The builders supported the old tradition and put a coin under the first item of the future console when installing steel structures.
