Video Overview of Kaliningrad Cultural and Educational Centre Construction

The walls of Tretyakov Gallery Branch exhibition halls were plastered, the first element of the unique console was installed at the construction site of the Bolshoi Theatre Branch, and the 5th floor of the building of the Baltic Higher School of Musical and Dramatic Arts was built. Construction of three Cultural and Educational Complex facilities is proceeding at rapid pace.

Branch of the Tretyakov Gallery

The future building of the Tretyakov Gallery Branch has the highest completion rate. Fourteen exhibition halls undergo transformation daily. Today the finishing plastering of the walls is nearing completion. Laying of utility lines is completed. This made it possible to start the active phase of work on the ceiling structures. Installation of stained glass windows, each weighing over one tonne, continues around the 1st floor perimeter. Also, a major phase of laying the outdoor power lines has been completed.

Bolshoi Theatre Branch

Frame of the Bolshoi Theatre branch is 80% complete. Vertical structures are erected between 25 and 30 metres. Steel structures are being installed in the large auditorium — they are set in place of the future parterre and amphitheatre. Installation of supporting steel structures in the small auditorium was completed. The workers have already erected the floors of the building and started construction of partition walls made of gas silicate blocks. The main event in construction of the theatre was start of the unique console installation, the outreach of which will be 80 metres without support point.

Building of the Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts

The building of the Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts was also transformed. Steel frame of the 5th floor was assembled within two weeks. The mullion and transom system is being assembled for subsequent installation of Corten steel and glass facades. Work is being carried out around the building to lay external utilities.

“Today, construction of all the facilities proceeds as scheduled,” says Dmitry Rzhannikov, General Director of STG-ZapadOver a thousand workers are involved in three objects, eight cranes are used, one of which with increased lifting capacity is installed specially for the assembly of the theatre console. Much attention is paid to the Tretyakov Gallery Branch, as the building is already partially finished. This is how they will be presented to future employees and visitors. As before, we are working in contact with the future users of the buildings to coordinate and resolve all arising issues”.

The task to create four cultural centres (Vladivostok, Kemerovo, Sevastopol, Kaliningrad) was set by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in his Address to the Federal Assembly in 2018 and detailed in the Executive Order on the National Goals and Strategic Objectives of Development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024.

Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad also hosts:

- Tretyakov Gallery Branch — 14 exhibition halls with a total area of 4.4 thousand square meters;

- Opera and Ballet Theatre (Branch of the Bolshoi Theatre) — large auditorium with 950 seats, small auditorium with 300 seats;

- Baltic Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts (Branch of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts) for 150 seats.

Construction of the Cultural and Educational Complex in Kaliningrad is being carried out by Stroytransgaz Group as commissioned by the National Cultural Heritage Foundation for Social and Cultural Projects.
