STG Continues to Participate in Garden of Memory Campaign

International campaign “Garden of Memory” is held on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin and is intended to immortalise the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War. Over 27 million trees are planted annually in Russia and abroad as part of the Garden of Memory. This year was not exceptional. All 89 entities and 36 countries honoured the memory of the defenders of our Fatherland by planting memorial trees. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people across Russia and abroad create living monuments to the heroes who fought for our freedom.

Along with colleagues from Sevastopol, Kaliningrad and Kemerovo, employees of the project implementation directorate “Construction of the Bagaevsky Hydroelectric Complex. Phase 2” headed by Levani Khumarashvili, Construction Director, joined the action together with pupils of the Rostov school “Erudit”.

One of the most popular ornamental varieties of apple trees — John Downie — was chosen for planting. And it is no coincidence. A small plant up to 4-6 metres high and 3-4 metres in diameter is ideal for the schoolyard. Next year, the apple tree will not only bloom in May, but will also give the children fruit in autumn.

- “Garden of Memory” is a personal memory of each of us, there is no person in our country who was not affected by the Great Patriotic War. And there is nothing more important than to keep the memory of people who at the cost of their lives gave life to us and our children. We not only planted trees with schoolchildren with great pleasure, but also talked to them about the war and the heroes in whose honour the campaign was arranged. Let the apple trees remind them of their ancestors and make them happy with their fruits,” said Levani Khumarashvili, Director of Construction Management.

The Garden of Memory is not just an event, it is the start of a new tradition, which is aimed at preserving the heroism of the ancestors, the history of the country and the history of each family. Each tree is a symbol of memory and gratitude of the younger generation, and joint actions of planting and caring for the plantings are a symbol of unity at all times.

This week in Moscow on Poklonnaya Gora near the Victory Museum the final event of the fourth season of the international campaign Garden of Memory took place, which was attended by Victoria Abramchenko, Deputy Prime Minister.
