The Teretyakov Gallery Management Visits Kaliningrad Branch under Construction

The Director General of the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Director of the Kaliningrad Branch visited the cultural institution construction site on Oktyabrsky Island. The cultural institution is being constructed on Oktyabrsky Island. The museum will become an important part of the Cultural and Educational Complex, which is being constructed in Kaliningrad under instruction of the President of the Russian Federation.

Mrs. Elena Pronicheva, Director General of the State Tretyakov Gallery, inspected the construction progress. ‘The construction activities were started in 2020. Today, the construction of the branch is entering the home stretch. Now we are waiting for the National Cultural Heritage Foundation, which is the project customer, to adjust the dates for project completion and handover to the Tretyakov Gallery, and afterwards we can plan the date when the Kaliningrad branch will accept its first guests. We have already developed the concept of the opening display, and we are planning the following exhibitions of works from the Tretyakov Gallery collections,’ says Elena Pronicheva.

The primary space of the first floor will be occupied by the entrance lobby, main staircase, large cafe, library, and a lecture hall for 276 students. An area of 4.4 thous. square meters is intended for 14 exhibition halls. In addition to the exhibition space, there will be public areas for creative and educational programmes: lecture chambers, pottery and craft workshops, painting workshop, etc. in the gallery branch.

We will do our best to promote cultural development in the region at the highest level. The first floor of the branch will be a public open space occupied by cafe, gift and bookshops. We plan to arrange a cinema hall here, where we will show cinema retrospectives. The space of the first floor will be public and inclusive. There are also plans to open a children’s hall, a history hall of the Tretyakov Gallery and many others. In the end, we will have a unique creative cluster’.

The branch of the Tretyakov Gallery has been designed and is being built in accordance with all modern requirements to museums. The institution will open its doors to visitors in 2024.
