Construction of Piers for the Bridge over the Chusovaya River Begins

Concrete Put in the Foundation of a Pier

A new stage has begun in the construction of a bridge across the Chusovaya River, which will become part of the Moscow-Kazan-Perm-Khanty-Mansiysk-Surgut-Tomsk transport corridor – construction of piers directly in the riverbed has begun. The builders put the first 300 cubic meters of concrete in the foundation of pier No. 2 of the new bridge.

The event was preceded by a significant scope of preparatory work: construction of temporary bridges and sites, installation of bored piles with a height of 23.5 meters under water, construction and strengthening of a sheet pile pit, pumping out water, installation of a plugging (waterproof) layer of more than 500 cubic meters of concrete, reinforcement of the grillage and pier body, grillage formwork. In total, about 2,000 cubic meters of concrete will be put in the pier. The next step will be the pier body construction. At the same time, construction of other three of 14 piers for the future bridge is under way.

Reinforced Frame of the Pier Body

The new bridge will be the twin to the existing one that is 1.5 km long. It will be spaced 18 meters away from the existing bridge and will eventually take half of the transport load.

It is expected that, once the new bridge is completed, all traffic will be moved to it for one season. This time will be spent on the renovation of the existing bridge. In addition, during the new bridge construction, the road sections on both banks will be reconstructed and two-level junction will be built. The implementation of this project will finish the major reconstruction of the transport corridor that connects the Perm territory with the neighbouring regions. In particular, the distance between Perm and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area will be reduced by 350 km.
