First Elements of the Overpass Superstructure are Installed on the Central Embankment of Volgograd

In Volgograd, the installation of metal elements of the overpass superstructure has started, which will allow pedestrians to quickly cross the Zero Longitudinal Road in the future. The work is part of the reconstruction of the Volgograd Central Embankment carried out by Stroytransgaz.

Metal structures will be installed in 4 stages. At the first stage, a truck crane with a lifting capacity of up to 300 tons installed two large-scale metal structures on the supports located on both sides of the road. The length of the first installed spans exceeds 30 meters, and the weight of the largest structure is 46 tons. Each of the span structures is fastened to the reinforced concrete supports with special support parts. After installation of the superstructure, specialists will mount the spans adjacent to the stairs that lead towards the downtown, prepare the foundation for laying paving stones, and install fences.

All the span elements are made according to individual drawings at the production sites of local enterprises — the Krasny Oktyabr plant and VZBT. The structures are made of high-strength low-alloy steel and are corrosion-resistant. The total weight of all the elements is about 300 tons.

The warranty period of the structure is 100 years. This means that more than one generation of Volgograd residents will walk along the future bridge.

The 18-meter wide pedestrian overpass of about 80 meters will lead to the amphitheatre – a concert hall for 2,300 seats, which will become not only the cultural core of the new comfortable embankment but also an architectural cherry on the cake, yet another landmark of the hero city of Volgograd. By now, over 50% of monolithic structures of the building grandstands are completed. Facade and finishing work will start next.
