Progress of Moscow-Kazan-Ekaterinburg M-12 Highway Phase 1 Construction (June 2023)

Stroytransgaz Group plans to commission the remaining 32 km of M-12 Highway Phase 1 ahead of schedule. So, the developers ramped up a high pace of the new highway construction. It is expected that the Federal Highway will be launched in this September, and will interconnect Moscow and Vladimir Regions.

It is planned to complete asphalt-concrete pavement at the 2nd start-up complex of Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan M-12 Highway Phase 1 in the middle of August.

Upon preliminary waterproofing of 32 km entry section, road workers continue to arrange sand bed (98% completed at the moment), lay crushed stone and sand mixture (97% completed) and asphalt-concrete (78% completed). Construction of earth subgrade is nearing completion (99% complete), and the slopes are reinforced with grass sowing.

Since the beginning of works at the 2nd start-up complex of the Highway Phase 1, 342,000 tonnes of asphalt-concrete have been paved. In June, 68,000 tonnes out of the planned 110,000 tonnes of asphalt-concrete have already been rolled. The bottom layer covers 24 km and the top layer covers 18 km.

Artificial structures are the main road components. 16 bridge crossings and overpasses are actively constructed along 32 km of the Highway:

1 underpass – 95% complete;

5 bridge crossings – 89% complete;

10 overpasses – 89% complete.

The builders are equipping overpasses over motorways (4 structures), railway lines (3 structures) and over M-12 highway (3 structures). In addition, bridge crossings over water bodies (rivers – Kirzhach, Bolshaya Dubna, Volga, as well as forest lake and swamp) are under construction. Finishing works are underway at pedestrian overpass near the village of Molodino, Petushinsky District, Vladimir Region.

To date, on the bridge over the Kirzhach River (PK 117) located near Gorodishchi urban-type settlement, Vladimir Region, the builders have fully completed the monolithic structures in the right direction, as well as waterproofing of the structures and asphalt concrete casting. For the right direction, the span has been concreted and the monolithic bridging slabs are being completed. Bridge crossing is 91% complete. The length of the bridge crossing over the Kirzhach River is 268 m, and the width is 24.6 m.

Works on construction of a bridge crossing over swamp (PK 283) at the section between the Chyornaya River and the Tanka River (near Omutishche railway station of Gorky direction) are being actively carried out. As of today, erection of the supports and thrusting of steel spans in the left and right directions of the bridge have been completed successfully. Installation of formwork and reinforcement of the span are in progress. Bridge crossing is 80% complete.

Operations continue at 3 artificial structures across the railway lines. Preparatory work for laying crushed stone-mastic asphalt concrete on the overpass over the Great Ring Road of the Moscow Railway (PK 76) is underway. Overpass is 95% complete.

The monolithic slab of the roadway is under construction at the overpass over the district road and the Gorky railway (PK 176). Overpass is 80% complete.

On the overpass over the railway lines of the Gorky direction in Vladimir Region (PK 249) steel span structures were installed. Reinforcing and concreting of the pre-cast concrete slab is being actively carried out; 750 m3 of 1,320 m3 of the monolithic slab has been concreted. Overall completion is 85%.

Simultaneously, we carry out installation of utilities, cable laying for external power supply 81% (68,930 out of 85,026 m), storm water sewage system 97% (21,249 out of 22,258 linear m), 35% of noise screens (18,205 out of 52,671 m2), 29% of steel barriers (26,791 out of 92,696 linear m). Road marking operations will commence in August 2023.

In addition to the main construction in Petushinsky District, we perform restoration of rural roads broken by machinery during construction. A total of 42 kilometres will be complete by September.

About 2,200 workers and 500 units of equipment are engaged at the site. The works are carried out in two shifts.
