Design and construction of the first section of M-12 Moscow-Kazan highway

In September 2020, Stroytransgaz JSC was selected as the executor of the work package for the design and construction of the first section of M-12 “Future Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan Highway”. This 80 km section of the Highway will pass from the intersection with the federal highway A-108 "Moscow Big Ring" to the intersection with the federal highway M-7 "Volga". The Project customer is the Russian Highways State Company.

The section of the Highway is to be constructed by June 30, 2024. M12 Highway is a toll highway under construction, which will connect Moscow with Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod. The section of the Highway to be built as part of the first Project stage will pass through the Moscow and Vladimir regions.

The new Highway is included in the global state project "Europe-Western China", which was initiated by President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China and supported by President V. V. Putin of the Russian Federation. The project suggests restoration of the Silk Road, which has been connecting Europe and China for many millennia. The Highway will create great opportunities for Eurasian integration, become a competitive alternative to the existing transport sea and railway routes connecting Europe and China, and provide optimal conditions for cargo transportation in three main directions: China-Kazakhstan, China-Central Asia, China-Kazakhstan-Russia-Western Europe. The total length of the international route in the Russian Federation will be about 2,300 km.

The following are some of the expected results of the Project execution: increase of the use of the transit potential of the Russian Federation and development of export of transport services, increase of economic efficiency of cargo and passenger transportation, stimulation of social and economic development of the regions within the Project attraction zone, expansion of import and export of technologies and innovations in construction and operation of transport and warehouse/terminal infrastructure, increase in foreign investments into the Russian economy, etc.
