Progress of Moscow-Kazan-Ekaterinburg M-12 Highway Phase 1 Construction (July 2023)

Stroytransgaz Group plans to commission the remaining 32 km of M-12 Highway Phase 1 ahead of schedule. The Chairman of the Management Board of Avtodor State Company Vyacheslav Petushenko inspected Phase 1 of construction of the new M-12 route.  A drivethrough was ready for the visit of the head of Avtodor. Along the path, all the artificial structures, and sections under development have been examined and inspected. High construction speed has been noted by the visitors. The launch of traffic in Phase 1 of the federal highway is planned for the end of August. To meet the deadlines set by the country’s leadership, the activities performed at this critical site are subject to step-by-step control.

It is planned to complete asphalt-concrete pavement at the 2nd start-up complex of Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan M-12 Highway Phase 1 in the middle of August. Since the beginning of works at the 2nd start-up complex of the Highway Phase 1, 417 thous. tonnes of asphalt-concrete have been laid.

Artificial structures are the main road components. 16 bridge crossings and overpasses are being actively constructed along 32 km of the highway:

1 underpass – 95 % complete

5 bridge crossings – 92% complete

10 overpasses – 96 % complete.

The builders are making the overpasses over motorways (4 structures), railway lines (3 structures) and over M-12 highway (3 structures). Furthermore, bridge crossings over water bodies (rivers – Kirzhach, Bolshaya Dubna, Volga, as well as forest lake and swamp) are under construction. Finishing works are underway at pedestrian overpass near the village of Molodino, Petushinsky District, Vladimir Region. Monolithic structures have been completed for all artificial structures, and the construction of roadway and installation of barrier guards are in progress.

Simultaneously, installation of utility systems is being carried out, the construction of storm water sewers and cable laying for external power supply is complete, and noise screens (46,743 out of 52,671 m2) and steel barriers (76,730 out of 92,696 linear metres) are being installed. The road marking is 35 % complete. In addition to the main construction in Petushinsky District, restoration of rural roads broken by machinery during construction is being carried out. A total of 42 kilometres will be complete by September.

About 2,200 workers and 500 units of equipment are engaged at the site. The works are carried out in two shifts.
