Video Review of the Bridge Construction across the Chusovaya River in Perm Krai (March 2022)

This is our new video review of the bridge being constructed across the Chusovaya river in Perm Krai. The bridge under construction will become part of the Moscow - Kazan - Perm - Khanty-Mansiysk - Surgut - Tomsk transport route. Putting this bridge into operation will eliminate traffic jams at the river crossing and facilitate the traffic. The new bridge will be 1.5 km long; in addition, over 7.5 km of roads will be overhauled and three interchanges will be built: at the intersection of Tsimlyanskaya and Korsunskaya streets, and near the Palniki railway station.

Constructing the Bridge in Cooperation with the River Fleet

The foundations of all supports of the bridge over the Chusovaya River have been completed, 10 are fully ready. The builders plan to have all the supports completed by this summer.

The first section of the 336.8-meter-long superstructure has already been launched from the left bank to the fifth support. Structural assembly and launching of the right bank superstructure is continuing smoothly; 114 out of 1,155 metres have been launched.

Tsimlyanskaya Street Intersection Overpass

The steel superstructures of the 169-meter-long overpass at the Tsimlyanskaya Street intersection have been installed. Steel-reinforced concrete beams weighing 340.5 tonnes in total were assembled on the ground and then installed on their supports by a truck crane. In the next few days the construction workers will lower the spans onto their supports and commence installing the casing for the cast-in-place slab. Concrete works will be started once the average daily temperatures rise above zero.

While the supports and the spans were under construction, the road traffic was redirected to a temporary bypass to allow the works to be carried out without hindering the drivers. Cars are already using the new section of the Eastern Bypass to drive in the area of the overpass.

Meanwhile, the access roads/ramps to the overpass are being built. The paving of the overpass and the ramps of 18,875 square meters in total is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2022. The finished traffic interchange will begin to operate in Q3 2022.

The first of three pedestrian overcrossings designed for crossing the road is also currently under construction. The overcrossings will address the needs of low-mobility groups: the pavilions will have enclosed-shaft elevator platforms usable at sub-zero temperatures.

Palniki Overpass

Phase-2 overpass superstructures are being installed in Perm Krai. Fifty percent of works have been completed. At the same time, the remaining supports are being erected and the 5 ramps of the interchange that includes the overpass are being overhauled. The total length of the ramps is 1,411 m. This overpass is being erected in place of the previously dismantled one and will be an exact copy of the left-side overpass already constructed and put into temporary operation in August 2021.

Korsunskaya Crossing

Construction of the Vtoraya Korsunskaya Street interchange has began. The foundations of four of the five supports of the almost-100-meter-long overpass are being laid. Moreover, the existing Levshino-Golovanovo railway overpass has been disassembled, and the preparatory work for the new overpass supports construction is in progress.

Motorway Main Stretch

Carriageway pre-construction works are underway at the main stretch of the motorway: materials for the future earthwork and asphalt surfacing are being delivered, stormwater drains and culverts are being installed. All works are scheduled to be finished and all four lanes of the new road are planned to be opened for traffic this year. The completed road will be 7.7 km, excluding the bridge crossing.

This motorway under construction is of special importance both for residents and for economic development — the new bridge and its access route are the closing phase of the large-scale reconstruction of the transport route that will connect the capital of the Perm Krai with the northern areas of the region and the Sverdlovsk Region.
