Asphalt Placement Started on Oktyabrsky avenue in Lyubertsy

Builders have proceeded to place the first batch of asphalt in 2022 on the section of Oktyabrsky avenue under renovation in Lyubertsy.

Work has now started to construct the 2nd widening section of the roadway on the main route. Once asphalting is complete, traffic from the existing lanes will be redirected to this section. This section is situated at the intersection of Oktyabrsky avenue with Vlasov street on the right side when travelling towards countryside. Therefore, the roadway will be widened from 4 to 8 lanes without interrupting the flow of traffic.

The job site is 254 meters long in 2 lanes 3.5m each. Asphalt concrete will be placed in two layers: the top layer of base course and the bottom layer of surface course, amounting to a total of some 750 tons.

The work will be phased in two stages. First, the bitumen emulsion will be poured over the crushed stone and the underlayer will be laid. Then the geogrid will be laid with the emulsion poured over the underlayer, and the second layer will be laid. 1 asphalt paver and 3 rollers are involved in the operations. It is planned to complete this work over the next week. The traffic will be redirected after May 10 upon agreement with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate.

Preparatory work was carried out before asphalting. This included excavating the road bed, filling of 815 cu.m of sand and 765 cu.m of crushed stone, installing 265 curbstones.

Also, the base course top layer of crushed stone-and-mastic asphalt concrete (ЩМА-20) will be laid immediately before completing Phase 1 of the Oktyabrsky avenue reconstruction project. Crushed stone-and-mastic asphalt concrete is used in road projects to build the top layer of surface course. The use of this material in repairs helps to increase the mean time between repairs. The largest grains contained in this material grade (ЩМА-20) are up to 20 mm. Grains of this size prevent rutting and cracking in the surface course and have a noise-absorbing effect.

The reconstruction of the avenue will help to improve traffic conditions on the main transport artery of Lyubertsy, which connects the town with Moscow. Phase 1 of the large-scale reconstruction is being delivered by Stroytransgaz Group.

The job site of Phase 1 extends from where Vlasov street adjoins Oktyabrsky avenue to where the road approaches the overpass that spans the railway within the main route of Oktyabrsky avenue at the turn to Volkovskaya street. As a result of this project, the number of lanes on the trunk road will increase from 4 to 8. The road reconstruction length will be

1.5km along the main route of Oktyabrsky avenue and 2.94km along side roads and exits. STG is also going to construct a new four-lane overpass over 2 congested road crossings in Krasnaya and Smirnovskaya streets with a length of 473m.

To ensure road traffic safety, 2 underpasses will also be built, including ramps for baby carriages and wheelchairs. The project provides for installation of 3 traffic lights and construction of 7 bus stops. After the reconstruction, the average traffic speed will be about 80 km/h and vehicle travel time will reduce to 20 to 15 minutes. The road’s traffic capacity will increase by 35%.
