“The road theme is strategic for the region development,” pointed out Aleksandr Avdeev. “This year, unprecedented amounts have been allocated for the repairs and construction of roads. The construction of M-12 is our chance to attract large investors to the region and carry out large-scale reindustrialization. Based on the results, it was decided to set up a work team for interaction and prompt resolution of current issues under the M-12 project.”

Vyacheslav Petrovich Petushenko emphasized: “Initially, the M-12 highway is an integral part of the Europe–Western China international transport corridor with a length of 2,500 km across the Russian Federation. The M-12 highway will occupy 811 km to pass through the Moscow, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod Regions, Chuvashia and Tatarstan. The highest priority of the highway is transit traffic. This is a road that will not have a single intersection, not a single traffic light in one level and will provide access to all existing large cities. Therefore, by creating this highway, we are already doing the work of bypassing these largest cities. The highway has a social significance — to ensure transport accessibility for the population.”

Stroytransgaz Group continues building the first section of the M-12 highway. More than 2.5 thousand people work at the facility around the clock, and more than 650 units of machinery are engaged. The length of Phase 1 of the M-12 highway, which passes through the territory of the Moscow and Vladimir Regions, will be 80 km. The company is implementing the large-scale project in accordance with the approved schedule.

To date, the sand-base layer of the future road is ready for 52 km (65%), the crushed stone sand layer – for 47 km (59%), the upper base layer – for 38 km (47.5%), and the lower pavement layer – for 9.85 km (12%). 7.9 million cubic meters of sand, 2.1 thousand square meters of crushed stone sand mix, and more than 1 million square meters of asphalt concrete mix have been already used. Every day, road builders lay about 11 thousand square meters of the lower pavement layer and 6.7 thousand square meters of the top base layer, and in mid-August, work will begin to lay the top pavement layer.

Besides, the assembly of driven piles has been fully completed, of which almost 4.2 thousand units have been installed. All culverts of the M-12 first section will be put into operation in the near future. Work in this field has been completed by 89%, while the installation of reinforced concrete beams has already been completed by 56%.

Reconstruction of utility communications that fall within the borders of the highway construction is at the final stage. To date, construction and installation work has been completed on 95 networks out of 101. For instance, the following utilities are ready: all the 55 communications networks, 12 out of 12 electricity networks, 7 out of 7 gas lines, 4 out of 4 reclamation systems, 2 out of 2 outdoor lighting systems, and 18 out of 21 railroad networks. At the moment, the progress of utilities reconstruction is 94%.

“I am very pleased that we are implementing this significant federal-scale project at such a high pace. Initially, we knew that it would be necessary to build Phase 1 of the highway in a short time, but our knowledge and vast experience will allow us to commission the facility even ahead of the planned schedule. I wish to express my deep gratitude to our specialists. They carry out the work required to build the highway around the clock and in any weather,” said Vladimir Aleksandrovich Lavlentsev, General Director of Stroytransgaz Group.

Phase 1 of the M-12 highway construction project will include building 29 crossing structures, which are 24 bridges and overpasses, 3 cattle passes, and 2 pedestrian underpasses. As part of the agreements with the state company, it is planned to launch traffic from station 328 (from the intersection of the M-7 highway) to station 800 by 31 December this year.
