The Road Exhibition Forum is the largest industry discussion platform in our country, which brings together reputable international experts and key representatives of the Russian road and transport complex from various departments and executive authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Among other guests of the event were manufacturers of materials and road construction equipment and representatives of science and business.

The exhibition was held in three pavilions of the Kazan Expo IEC, in each of them united the exposition by a specific topic. For instance, a thematic presentation of the Moscow-Kazan-Yekaterinburg transport route took place in the first pavilion. 16 key organisations involved in the project execution in terms of design and construction & installation, as well as five constituent entities of the Russian Federation located the route area participated.

The Stroytransgaz stand was also located in the first pavilion, as the company is one of the key contractors involved in implementing this project. Phase 1 of the M-12 Highway, where the road organisation is constructing, goes through the territory of the Moscow and Vladimir Regions, its length is 80 km. The overall completion of Phase 1 is 72%. The facility completion deadline under the contract is 2024.

However, Stroytransgaz will commission 48 km of Phase 1 (92% complete) as early as this year. The personal supervision by Vyacheslav Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of Russian Highways, and Vladimir Lavlentsev, CEO of the company, helps to achieve these results. Further, introduction of the Stroytransgaz Production System, monitoring and analysis of losses and backlogs, and key events schedule have a major role to play in the high-quality project execution. These measures allow us to perform work not just on time, but ahead of schedule as well.

Three layers of asphalt concrete mixture will be laid on the main course of the route. Laying of the surface layer of the base on the introductory section is 99% complete, the lower and surface layer of the pavement is 96 and 89% complete respectively. The total thickness of the layer is 28 cm. Since the beginning of construction, more than 700 thousand tons of asphalt concrete mix have been laid (more than 7 thousand tons a day). SP 32-E asphalt mix was used for the surface layer of the base. It contains a unique binder designed specifically for climate conditions in the Moscow and Vladimir Regions.

Near the work site, four asphalt concrete plants were specially built. They accommodate laboratories for quality control of the produced asphalt concrete mix. Each plant will produce 160 to 240 tons of the mix per hour.

On the sites where all three layers have already been completed, the builders have begun installation of road elements, landscaping, and road marking. Crash barriers along the road baseline have been installed at 44.5 out of 48 km, 2,040 out of 2,700 lighting poles have been erected, and now wire suspension between them is being carried out. By the end of 2022, 48 out of 80 km of work will be completed in full.

The construction project will include building 29 crossing structures, which are 24 bridges and overpasses, 3 cattle passes, and 2 pedestrian underpasses. The introductory section of 48 km includes 13 crossing structures, all of which will be completed in full by the end of this year. Currently, work is being completed on the overpass across the M-7 Volga Highway and the transport junction at the 33th km of the highway.

The bridge over the Kirzhach River on the 17th km of the road is one of the longest bridges at the Phase 1 of the M-12 Highway. The bridge is 268 m long and 24.6 m wide. Currently, work on launching the overpass superstructure is in progress. The project is planned to be launched in August 2023.

The M-12 Highway will provide tremendous potential for the country’s economic development. It will connect the largest regional centres and agglomerations with the high-speed road network of the European part of Russia, thereby significantly increasing the macroeconomic effect. During the first year of operation, the route will attract up to 70 million tons of domestic cargo traffic due to a twofold reduction in travel time between promising centres of economic growth.

This road will enable to divert traffic from the M-7 Volga Federal Highway, one of the busiest routes in the country. In addition, once the highway is commissioned, the trip from Moscow to Kazan will be reduced from 12 to 6.5 hours.
