Highway M12 is a toll highway under construction that will connect Moscow with Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan. The new highway is included in the global Europe-West China government project that was initiated by China Chairman Xi Jinping and supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Project completion is scheduled for 2024. Once M-12 highway is commissioned, the trip from Moscow to Kazan will take only 6.5 hours. M-12 highway will have no intersections with other roads - this will be solved by multi-level interchanges, and pedestrian walkways are designed as overpasses and underpasses.
